An Unexpected Visitor

The marble lobby of Sterling Trust was designed to intimidate. With its towering pillars, gleaming gold accents, and quiet, church-like atmosphere, it was a playground for the ultra-wealthy. Marcus sat behind the polished reception desk, watching his colleague, George, strut across the floor. George was a rising star in private wealth management, known as much for his flawless grey suits as his complete lack of empathy for anyone earning less than six figures.

On this rainy Tuesday morning, the heavy glass doors slid open to admit an unusual visitor. She was an elderly woman, shivering slightly in a damp, deep green coat. A simple grey knit beanie was pulled low over her silver hair, and she clutched a worn leather handbag to her chest. She looked entirely out of place amidst the high-society decor.

George said, his voice dripping with condescension. He gestured dismissively toward the exit, expecting her to apologize and scurry away in shame.

But the woman didn't flinch. She looked at George with calm, piercing eyes. Instead of turning back toward the rain, she walked right past him, heading straight for the secure elevator bank reserved only for top-tier executives.

George panicked, his arrogant composure cracking as he rushed to stop her.

"Wait, what is that?"

he demanded, reaching out as she pulled a small silver device with a purple-glowing screen from her bag. She held it against the biometric scanner, and a sharp chime echoed through the lobby as Marcus's computer screen flashed a high-level security alert.

The elevator doors slid open. The woman turned back to George, her face a mask of serene authority.

"You should have let me in,"

she whispered, stepping inside as the doors swept closed, leaving George frozen in absolute shock.
