A Glimpse of Cruelty

The cavernous showroom gleamed, a temple to excess. Polished obsidian floors reflected the cold, architectural glow of neon and spotlights, illuminating a collection of hypercars perched on silent, rotating displays. Outside, torrential rain lashed against the towering glass windows, blurring the vibrant neon cityscape into an abstract watercolor. Amidst this ostentatious display stood Carter Ross, a banker whose sharp features and predatory smirk screamed entitlement. Dressed in an impeccably tailored charcoal suit, he surveyed his domain with haughty disdain. Kneeling on the frigid floor, a stark contrast to Carter's polished world, was Liam. A veteran, his face was a roadmap of hardship, etched with deep lines and shadowed by hollow cheeks. His threadbare jacket and ragged pants spoke of a life lived on the margins. He clutched a dented brass medal, his scarred hands trembling. His posture was one of profound exhaustion, a man worn down by battles both past and present. Carter’s eyes fixed on Liam, a flicker of disgust crossing his face. He drew back his head and spat, a viscous droplet arcing through the air to land with a wet slap on Liam's cherished medal. Liam flinched, his shoulders collapsing further, tears welling in his rheumy eyes. He curled his fingers protectively around the soiled token of his past. "Filthy beggar," Carter sneered, his voice laced with venom, "keep your diseased hands off my pristine showroom floor!" Liam remained silent, swallowing the lump in his throat, a single tear tracing a path through the grime on his cheek. Carter, emboldened by Liam's silent suffering, raised his polished brogue, intending to kick Liam's meager tin cup. The clatter of coins would have been the only sound, but it was drowned out by the sudden, heavy whoosh of a car door. A midnight-blue and obsidian Mercedes-Maybach S680 had arrived, and stepping out was Axel Iron. Disguised, yet radiating an undeniable aura of power, his steel-blue eyes narrowed as he took in the cruel tableau. Carter, recognizing the billionaire, instantly plastered an oily, obsequious grin on his face. "Mr. Iron! Forgive the mess, sir, I was just exterminating this worthless street rat before your viewing!" he fawned, smoothing his lapels. Axel, however, offered no reply. He strode forward, his movements deliberate, his gaze fixed murderously on Carter, then on Liam.
