Previously: A wealthy businessman's arrogance clashes with a brave firefighter's duty as a fire engulfs his mansion. The true cost of his pride is revealed when his daughter's life is on the line.

The East Wing and the Daughter

The confrontation on the driveway was brutally interrupted by a sudden, violent explosion. A fireball erupted from the villa's second-floor master balcony, a concussive wave of shattering glass and raining embers that forced even the stoic Tommy to brace himself. Damian, scrambling to his feet against the ornate wrought-iron gates, let out a strangled gasp, his eyes fixed on the horrifying spectacle. The arrogance that had defined him moments before evaporated, replaced by sheer, unadulterated panic.

"Wait—stop—" Damian shrieked, his voice cracking with a frantic terror, "Chloe was studying upstairs, my daughter is trapped in that room!"
The mention of his daughter, Chloe, seemed to pierce through Tommy's hardened exterior. Without a second’s hesitation, the firefighter turned and charged towards the blazing entrance. He didn't pause to argue or consider the politician's previous threats. His mission was clear: save the child. With a powerful shoulder check, he forced the splintering mahogany doors open, disappearing into the raging black smoke that billowed out like a suffocating shroud. Damian watched, helpless, his heart hammering against his ribs, the inferno now a direct threat to the one person he truly loved. The fire, which had seemed like a mere inconvenience to be dealt with by hired help, was now a monstrous entity threatening to consume his deepest fears.

Tommy plunged into the inferno, the heat intense, the smoke blinding. Navigating the burning mansion was a treacherous dance, each step a gamble. He moved with practiced urgency, his training kicking in as he pushed through the suffocating darkness. He could hear the groaning of the structure, the crackling of flames devouring priceless art and furniture. He ascended towards the second floor, the air growing hotter, thicker. He found the room Chloe had been in – or what was left of it. Embers rained down, and the roar of the fire was deafening. He searched frantically, his eyes scanning through the haze. Then, a small sound, a whimper, caught his attention. He pushed aside a fallen, burning beam and there she was, huddled in a corner, terrified but alive. He quickly wrapped her in a fire-resistant blanket he carried, securing her safely in his arms. As he made his way back through the burning archway, emerging into the relative cool of the drizzle, he saw Damian still kneeling by the gate, a picture of despair. Tommy walked directly towards him, Chloe nestled securely against his chest plate, her soot-stained cheek resting there.

"Two more minutes listening to your ego and you would have been selecting a child's coffin, Damian," Tommy said, his voice raspy and thick with smoke, yet laced with a chilling disdain.
Damian stared, his face utterly devoid of color, his eyes glazed with a horror that went beyond the flames. The politician’s world, built on a foundation of unshakeable arrogance, had just been irrevocably shattered by the simple, devastating truth of his near-fatal pride.
