Previously: When a young champion mocked sixty-eight-year-old Sylvia at the shooting range, he had no idea she was a forgotten legend returning to reclaim her legacy and teach him a lesson.

The Legend Reborn

Stanley’s heart hammered against his ribs as he stared at the name on the digital roster: Sylvia Vance. To the younger crowd, the name meant nothing, but to anyone who had followed the sport thirty years ago, she was a myth. Sylvia Vance was the "Iron Maiden" of the 1988 Olympic team, a prodigy who had set records that still stood today. She had vanished from the public eye at the peak of her career following the tragic, sudden passing of her husband and coach. For three decades, she had lived in quiet anonymity, never touching a firearm—until today.

Connor, desperate to salvage his bruised ego, tried to laugh it off.

"A lucky streak,"
he muttered, though his voice lacked its previous conviction.
"Let's see if your old hands can hold that steady when the pressure actually builds in the final rounds. Rapid fire is one thing; endurance is another."

Sylvia remained silent, cleaning her weapon with practiced, rhythmic movements. She didn't need to speak; her focus was an impenetrable shield. But Stanley couldn't keep the secret any longer. Stepping up to the microphone, his voice crackled over the PA system, trembling slightly with emotion.

"Ladies and gentlemen,"
Stanley announced,
"we are privileged today to witness the return of a true master. Competing in lane four is none other than the three-time national champion and Olympic gold medalist, Sylvia Vance."

A collective gasp rippled through the older members of the crowd. The whispers swelled into a roar of excitement. Connor’s face drained of color. He turned to look at Sylvia, his mouth hanging slightly open. The "retirement club" joke suddenly felt like a lead weight in his stomach. He was standing next to the woman whose training manuals he had studied as a teenager, the very legend whose records he had spent his entire career trying—and failing—to break.
