The ballroom gasped as Marcus opened the portfolio, pulling out a legal document bearing the Sterling Enterprises seal. Alex's face drained of what little color it had left.

"What are you doing, Marcus?"

Alex stammered, trying to grab the papers.

"This is my engagement party!"

Marcus stepped back, shielding the documents.

"Our father signed a fraudulent acquisition of the land belonging to Chloe's family three years ago. I have spent months investigating the transaction, and today, the board has officially nullified it. Chloe, you are the rightful owner of the land, which now holds three of our major commercial properties. You are also, as of tonight, our primary shareholder."

Sarah shrieked in horror, realizing that the waitress she had mocked was now wealthier than both she and Alex combined. She let go of Alex's arm as if he were radioactive, realizing his position in the company was utterly compromised. Marcus turned back to his brother.

"And because of your unprofessional behavior tonight, and your attempt to use company funds for a petty wager, the board has voted to strip you of your executive title. You are finished, Alex."

Chloe stood tall, tears of relief welling in her eyes. The burden that had weighed on her shoulders for years—the fear of losing her mother's clinic, the struggle to survive—was gone in an instant. She looked at Alex, who was now ruined, abandoned by his furious fiancée, and utterly humiliated in front of high society. She didn't feel anger; she felt only peace. She turned to Marcus and offered a warm smile.
