The Reckoning at the Rusty Anchor
The air in the Rusty Anchor tavern hung thick with the smell of damp timber, stale beer, and impending storm. Outside, the torrential rain hammered the industrial glass skylight, each drop a percussive beat against the cavernous space. Massive, rusted anchor chains, relics of a bygone era, dangled from exposed iron beams, casting long, distorted shadows in the flickering light of tallow lanterns. It was in this atmospheric crucible of history and decay that Professor Vivian Beaumont, a woman whose very presence exuded an icy elitism, confronted her young protégé, Hannah.

Hannah stumbled backward, her breath hitching, her chin quivering uncontrollably as tears instantly welled along her reddened lower eyelids. Vivian’s voice, sharp and laced with vicious mockery, sliced through the tavern’s gloom: “You will never belong in a gallery, Hannah—this pathetic scribble is utterly worthless!” Hannah remained silent, her mouth clamped shut, her hands clutching her chest as her jaw trembled in a silent agony that Vivian seemed to relish.
