Previously: A scorned art professor's public humiliation of a young painter takes a dramatic turn when esteemed art world figures intervene, exposing a truth that shatters her world.

An Unexpected Arrival

The violent tearing of canvas echoed in the sudden, stunned silence that followed Courtney’s cruel pronouncement. Tommy, pressed against the damp wood, could only stare, his earlier humiliation replaced by a numbing disbelief. The explosion of color and splintered wood seemed to hang in the air, a monument to his dashed hopes. But before the dust could fully settle, the heavy, iron-banded tavern doors crashed open with a thunderous reverberation that shook the very foundations of the building. A blast of sea wind and driving rain swept into the room, extinguishing some of the lanterns and sending puddles sloshing across the worn floorboards. Standing silhouetted against the tempestuous night were two figures:

Henri Moreau, the esteemed chief curator of the Louvre, and a senior director from Sotheby's, both clad in rain-soaked navy trench coats. Their faces, etched with urgency, scanned the room, their eyes alight with a purpose that cut through the tavern's usual gloom. Henri’s voice, usually measured and calm, was filled with a breathless, frantic energy. “Stop! Which one of you is the master painter Tommy Vance?!”

Courtney, caught mid-smirk, froze. Her expression shifted from cruel triumph to bewildered, offended irritation. She instinctively straightened her coat, attempting to reclaim her authority, but the intrusion had shattered her moment. Tommy, still recoiling, could only stare at the new arrivals, his mind struggling to process the sudden shift in the room’s atmosphere. The Sotheby’s director, however, didn’t hesitate. With surprising speed, he pushed past Courtney’s rigid form, his gaze fixed on Tommy and the scattered remnants of his destroyed painting on the floor. He dropped reverently to both knees, oblivious to the water pooling around him, and produced a gold-embossed provenance folder. His voice, when he spoke, was hushed with awe and reverence. “Madame Tommy, the Louvre and Sotheby's syndicate officially offers ten million dollars upfront for your private collection!”
