Previously: A cruel art professor publicly humiliates a young painter by destroying her masterpiece, only for elite art world figures to intervene with a shocking revelation that turns the tables.

The Intervention

Just as I felt myself dissolving into the polished floor, the grand ballroom doors boomed open, shattering the suffocating tension. Two figures strode in with an undeniable air of authority: Jean-Luc Laurent, the distinguished Senior Curator of the Louvre, and Elena Rostova, the formidable Managing Director of Sotheby’s. They moved down the marble aisle, flanked by security, their presence commanding immediate attention. Laurent, his midnight-blue tuxedo impeccable, his gaze sharp, reached me in moments. He knelt beside me, his white-gloved hands delicately lifting the torn halves of my painting. He examined the thick impasto, the raw emotion still clinging to the ripped fibers, and then turned a scorching glare towards Jason Vance. Vance, who moments before had been basking in his cruel victory, now stood frozen, his arrogant smirk replaced by a mask of bewildered confusion. Color drained from his face as Laurent’s voice, imbued with a mixture of reverence and fury, echoed through the hall.

“You fool, you just defaced the greatest living prodigy's masterpiece we spent six months searching for.”

The words hung in the air, heavy with implications Vance clearly hadn't anticipated. He swallowed hard, a desperate bob of his Adam’s apple betraying his sudden panic. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead, his knees visibly weakening. Elena Rostova, meanwhile, moved with practiced grace. She unfurled an embossed, gold-sealed portfolio and extended an ivory fountain pen towards me. Jean-Luc gently helped me to my feet, his eyes conveying a silent understanding. Under the brilliant chandelier light, my own eyes began to glow, not with tears, but with a dawning vindication. Rostova’s voice, clear and commanding, cut through the stunned silence that had enveloped Vance.

“Sotheby’s and the Louvre officially offer ten million dollars for your entire private collection, Miss Moreau.”

The pronouncement struck Vance like a physical blow. His jaw unhinged, his eyes bulged in paralyzed horror. The carefully constructed facade of the esteemed art professor crumbled, revealing the petty, insecure man beneath. As his knees shook in absolute ruin, champagne flutes, loosened by the stunned guests, began to slip from nerveless fingers, their tinkling chime a fitting soundtrack to his downfall.
