The rain lashed down on the city, each drop a percussive beat against the obsidian marble of the hospital’s VIP porte-cochère. Under the sterile glow of chrome fixtures and the pulsating cyan-blue of cardiac monitors, Damian Knox, a banker whose arrogance was as sharp as his bespoke suit, stood over Jack, a homeless veteran. Jack, skeletal and clad in a faded M-65 jacket, shivered, his weathered cheeks hollowed by a life of hardship. Damian sneered, a predatory curl of his lip. “Get your filthy paws off my VIP floor, you worthless beggar!” he spat, the wet smack echoing disgustingly. Jack flinched, his chin quivering, his calloused hands tightening around a tarnished brass dog tag. Tears welled in his bloodshot eyes, his jaw trembling with suppressed humiliation. He remained silent, clutching the only memento of a past life.

Suddenly, the rain-slicked driveway was pierced by the aggressive hiss of a Mercedes-Maybach S680. It screeched to a halt, its tires hydroplaning. Through the rain-streaked tinted window, steely blue eyes fixed on Damian with lethal intensity. It was Thomas Wright, a billionaire disguised in the anonymity of his luxury vehicle. “Who the hell authorized this hearse to block my private VIP bay?” Damian barked, irritation overriding his earlier malice. Jack watched, silent, his eyes widening in stunned awe as raindrops streamed through his silver beard.

The heavy armored door swung open with a mechanical thud. Thomas Wright emerged, his utilitarian canvas coat soaked, revealing a glinting platinum chairman signet ring. His posture shifted, locking into formidable military poise as he splashed through the puddles toward Jack. “Stand tall, Sergeant Major,” Wright’s voice resonated, deep and commanding. Damian’s arrogant smirk froze. A cold bead of sweat traced a path down his temple as the banker’s world began to crack.
