Previously: A paralyzed billionaire freezes his guards when a barefoot street boy kneels beside him. One touch. One locket. A secret that shatters eight years of lies.

Marcus Hale's office was a glass-walled penthouse overlooking the Aegean, a monument to greed built on the ashes of Sebastian's family.

Sebastian had his bodyguards burst through the doors without knocking, the wheelchair humming as it rolled across the marble floor. Marcus was at his desk, a glass of whiskey in his hand, his gray beard neatly trimmed and his red-stoned ring glinting in the sunlight.

"Sebastian," Marcus said, his face going pale. "What a surprise. I didn't expect —"

"Don't," Sebastian cut him off, his voice cold as the sea. "Don't pretend you're surprised to see me." He held up the locket, and Marcus's eyes flickered with recognition. "Do you know what this is?"

Marcus's hand trembled around his glass. "That's... that's Evelyn's locket."

"And do you know who gave it to me?" Sebastian continued, his grip on the armrests of his wheelchair tightening. "My son. My son who you told me died in the clinic explosion eight years ago."

Marcus's face drained of all color. He set down the glass with a clatter. "Sebastian, I can explain —"

"Explain what?" Sebastian roared, his voice echoing off the glass walls. "Explain how you locked my wife in a burning building? Explain how you sent a nine-year-old boy onto the streets to survive on his own? Explain how you stood at my wife's funeral and pretended to grieve?"

Marcus's hand went to his desk drawer, but one of the bodyguards was faster, slamming the drawer shut with his hand. Marcus flinched, his composure cracking.

"I did it for you," Marcus said, his voice desperate. "Evelyn was going to leave you. She was going to take everything — the company, the shares — and I couldn't let that happen. The explosion was an accident, it was never supposed to hurt her, just scare her into staying. But she fought back, and the fire..."

"You're lying," Sebastian said, his voice barely a whisper. "Evelyn would never leave me. She loved me."

"She loved the money," Marcus spat, his fear turning to anger. "She was going to divorce you and take half of everything. I couldn't let that happen. I built this company with you, and I wasn't going to let her destroy it."

Sebastian stared at him, the pieces clicking into place. The explosion. The death certificates. The missing footage. It had all been Marcus. His partner, his friend, his brother-in-arms — had murdered his wife and tried to murder his son.

"You're going to rot in prison for this," Sebastian said, his voice shaking with rage.

Marcus laughed, a hollow, bitter sound. "You think you can prove anything? The footage is gone, the witnesses are dead, and the death certificates were signed by a doctor who's now retired in Switzerland. You have nothing."

Sebastian's hand went to his pocket, where he'd stashed a small recorder. "I have this conversation," he said, pressing the stop button. "And I have a witness."

Marcus's eyes went wide. "The boy?" he whispered. "You think a nine-year-old's testimony will hold up?"

"I think a nine-year-old's testimony, combined with this recording, and the fact that my son is alive — the one living proof that you lied — will be more than enough," Sebastian said. He turned to his bodyguards. "Call the police. And make sure they know to check Marcus's bank accounts for any transfers to Switzerland."

As the bodyguards moved, Marcus lunged for the drawer, but Sebastian was faster. He pressed a button on his wheelchair, and a small shockwave pulsed from the armrest, stunning Marcus just enough for the guards to grab him.

"You'll never get away with this," Marcus snarled as he was dragged away. "I'll fight this in every court —"

"You'll be fighting from a prison cell," Sebastian said calmly. "And I'll be watching from a yacht."

When the police arrived and took Marcus away, Sebastian sat alone in the penthouse, staring at the locket in his hands. The portrait of Evelyn smiled up at him, and he felt a peace he hadn't known in years.

He wheeled himself to the window and looked out at the sea, where the sun was setting in a blaze of gold and orange. Behind him, he heard the soft patter of bare feet, and then Noah was climbing onto his lap, wrapping his arms around his neck.

"Is the bad man gone?" Noah asked, his voice muffled against Sebastian's chest.

"Yes," Sebastian said, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. "He's gone. And he's never coming back."

"Can we go home now?" Noah asked.

Sebastian smiled, a real smile, the first he'd had in eight years. "Yes, son. Let's go home."

And as the wheelchair rolled out of the penthouse, Sebastian felt a strange new sensation in his legs — not just the twitching of restored nerves, but a lightness, a warmth, a sense of hope that he'd thought was dead forever. He looked down at the boy in his arms, and for the first time in eight years, he believed that life could be whole again.

Some secrets are buried with the dead. But some secrets come back, barefoot and brave, to pull you out of the darkness and show you the way home.
