Previously: A street boy with a tarnished locket kneels before a paralyzed billionaire and claims he can heal him. But the secret he carries will shatter a family's darkest lie.

The woman in the dim room turned, and Adrian’s heart stopped

Elena stood by the window, her dark hair longer than he remembered, her face thinner but still beautiful. She was humming softly, unaware of the door opening behind her. When she turned, her eyes widened, and the stack of letters she held scattered to the floor.

“Adrian?” she whispered, her voice cracking.

He didn’t speak—couldn’t speak. He just wheeled himself forward, his arms shaking, and she ran to him, falling to her knees beside the chair. Their foreheads touched, and the tears came freely, hot and silent.

“They told me you were dead,” she sobbed. “They said the ferry sank, and I was the only survivor. But they wouldn’t let me go. They said if I tried to contact you, they’d hurt our son.”

Adrian pulled her into his arms, Leo climbing onto his lap to join the embrace. The three of them held each other, the years of loss collapsing into a single, trembling moment.

“Who did this?” Adrian asked, his voice raw with fury and grief.

Elena pulled back, her eyes hard. “Your business partner, Marcus. He wanted the controlling share of Sterling Shipping. He paid off the ferry crew to fake our deaths, then kept me here as insurance—in case you ever got too close to the truth.”

Leo looked up at his father, his small face fierce. “He’s the one who took Mommy’s voice. He said if she ever sang again, he’d hurt me.”

Adrian’s hands clenched. Marcus had been his best man, his most trusted confidant. He’d mourned with him, leaned on him, signed over power of attorney during his darkest months.

“He’s in the penthouse right now,” Elena said. “He thinks you’re still paralyzed and grieving. He has no idea you’ve been healed.”

Adrian looked down at his legs, then at his son, then at his wife. He rose from the wheelchair, his legs trembling but holding. Leo cheered, and Elena laughed through her tears.

“Let’s go pay Marcus a visit,” Adrian said, his voice steady.

They found Marcus in the study, sipping whiskey by the fire. He froze when he saw Adrian walking, his face draining of color. Adrian didn’t say a word. He walked up to him, took the glass from his hand, and set it down.

“You took my family,” Adrian said softly. “You took my legs. You took seven years of my life.”

Marcus opened his mouth to speak, but Adrian’s fist connected with his jaw, sending him sprawling to the floor. The guards who had sided with Marcus were already in handcuffs, led away by the police Elena had called.

As Marcus lay on the rug, clutching his jaw, Adrian knelt beside him. “You’re going to prison, and you’re going to lose everything. But first, you’re going to watch me walk my son to his first day of school.”

He stood, took Elena’s hand and Leo’s hand, and walked out of the study without looking back.

That night, the three of them sat on the terrace, watching the stars over Manhattan. Leo fell asleep in Adrian’s lap, the locket resting over his heart.

“You know,” Elena said softly, “he asked about you every single day. Even when they told him to forget his father, he never did.”

Adrian kissed her temple. “He found me. He woke my legs. Some things, even money can’t buy.”

He looked down at his son, the boy who had crossed a city barefoot to save a father he’d never met. And for the first time in seven years, the Sterling mansion felt like a home again.
