Julian stared at his mother, the words failing him. "You? You started the fire?"

"I didn't start it," she said. "I ordered it. But the target was never you, dear. It was Clara and the brat. You were just collateral damage."

Mateo shrank against Julian's chest. Julian's voice shook. "Why? She was your daughter-in-law. He's your grandson."
