The Uninvited Guest

The grand ballroom of the estate was a masterpiece of crystal and gold, filled with the laughter of the city's elite. Arthur stood beside his daughter, Lily, who sat in a soft rose-pink gown, her legs still and lifeless beneath the silk. It was her twenty-first birthday, a milestone marred only by the tragedy that had confined her to a wheelchair three years prior.

Suddenly, the music died. The heavy oak doors swung open, and a hush fell over the crowd. A young man, barely twenty-one, walked into the room. He wore a simple, weathered tunic and was completely barefoot. His dusty feet left faint marks on the pristine dark hardwood floor. He walked with a quiet, undeniable purpose straight toward Lily.

Arthur’s protective instincts flared. He stepped forward, his black velvet tuxedo cutting a sharp silhouette.

"Don't touch her!"
he shouted, his voice echoing off the high ceilings. The security guards moved in, but the stranger ignored them, looking only at Lily. He held out a calloused hand.

"Let me dance with your daughter, and I'll make her walk again,"
the young man said softly. Lily stared at his hand, a spark of hope igniting in her eyes. Despite Arthur’s trembling warning, she reached out and took it.
