Unveiling the Past

The moment Lily’s hand touched Leo’s, a gasp rippled through the crowd. Arthur lunged forward, grabbing Leo’s shoulder to fling him away.

"Get your hands off her! Guards, remove this lunatic!"
Arthur roared, his face flushed with a sudden, desperate panic that went far beyond mere protective anger.

Leo stood his ground, his grip on Lily’s hand firm but gentle. He looked Arthur dead in the eye.

"Are you afraid of me, Arthur? Or are you afraid of who I am? My name is Leo Vance. My father was Dr. David Vance—the man whose medical license you destroyed to cover up your own guilt."

The ballroom gasped. Dr. Vance had been the leading neurosurgeon who treated Lily after the accident, publicly disgraced by Arthur for supposedly failing to cure her. Arthur’s hands began to shake violently.

"You are a liar! You're just a bitter boy looking for a handout!"
he screamed, waving frantically at the security guards rushing across the dance floor.

Leo leaned closer to Lily, his voice dropping to an urgent whisper.

"Lily, your legs are not broken. The physical wounds healed years ago. Your paralysis is a lock placed on your mind by a terrible lie. Your father told you the crash was your fault because you dropped your toy, didn't he?"

Lily’s eyes widened, tears welling up as the painful memory rushed back.

"Yes,"
she whispered.
"I distracted him..."

"No,"
Leo said fiercely, blocking the guards with his body.
"He was texting his mistress. He ran the light. He blamed a child to escape his own guilt, and the trauma of that lie paralyzed you. Trust me, Lily. Let go of his guilt, and dance with me."

Let go of his guilt, and dance with me."
