While Lily wept with joy, David's arrival on the lawn was marked by a strange, tense energy. Though he wore a smile, his eyes were cold and calculating as he stared at the silver basin. When Toby eagerly explained that Lily’s nerves were reacting to targeted stimulation, David's pleasant facade cracked. He insisted that Toby was giving Lily false hope and ordered the young man off the property, threatening to call the police. Suspicion, cold and heavy, settled in Lily's chest. Lily gasped, realization washing over her.
