Previously: When an intimidating biker group rode into Eleanor's quiet suburban neighborhood, she feared the worst. But the leader carried a mysterious green duffel bag that held her late son's ultimate secret.

The Secret Legacy

Eleanor felt her knees weaken, and she pushed the screen door open to let Marcus inside. The heavy green duffel bag was placed gently on her coffee table. For years, Eleanor had believed her son Thomas had simply abandoned his family to live a reckless life on the road. The truth, as Marcus began to explain, was far more complex and dangerous.

“Thomas wasn't just a rider, Eleanor,” Marcus explained, sitting on the edge of the floral sofa, looking entirely out of place. “He was working with the local authorities to expose a massive smuggling operation that was using our club's old routes. He joined us to help clean up the streets, and he saved my life when the cartel ambushed us.”

According to Marcus, Thomas had managed to secure a ledger containing the names of high-ranking local officials involved in the illegal operation. He had hidden it in a secure safe box at an abandoned warehouse downtown, leaving the key with Marcus in case anything happened to him.

“He wanted to protect you from the fallout,” Marcus said, placing a heavy brass key on the table. “But they found out he had it. And now that he's gone, they are looking for whoever has this key.”

As if on cue, the low rumble of a heavy engine sounded outside. Eleanor looked through the sheer curtains of her living room window. A sleek, black SUV with heavily tinted windows was idling slowly past her house. It was the third time it had circled the block since the bikers arrived.

“They followed us,” Marcus muttered, his jaw tightening as he stood up. “They know we have the key, and they know we came to see you. We are out of time, Eleanor. If they get their hands on that ledger, Thomas’s sacrifice will mean nothing, and your life will be in grave danger.”
