Previously: When seven-year-old Toby offered to sell a handmade toy motorcycle to a rugged biker named Marcus, he didn't expect a simple question to unlock a dark, long-buried family secret.

The Empty Grave

Marcus felt the world spin. Toby's father was Jesse, Marcus's closest brother-in-arms, who had allegedly perished in a fiery motorcycle accident five years ago. Marcus had indeed been a pallbearer at the funeral, weeping openly as the closed casket was lowered into the earth. To hear this child claim the grave was empty shattered everything Marcus believed to be true.

"Toby, where is your mom?" Marcus demanded, his voice thick with emotion. "Take me to her. Right now."

Toby wiped his nose with the back of his sleeve and pointed toward a small, weathered cabin tucked away behind the thick tree line bordering the property. Marcus followed the boy, his mind racing with a thousand questions. If the grave was empty, where was Jesse? Why had Clara, Jesse's wife, kept this a secret for half a decade?

As they reached the porch, the screen door creaked open. Clara stepped out, her eyes widening in sheer terror as she recognized the massive, tattooed biker standing next to her son. She immediately pulled Toby behind her protective embrace.

"Marcus? What are you doing here?" Clara gasped, her voice trembling. "I told you to stay away from us."
"Clara, look at this toy," Marcus said, holding up the wooden motorcycle. "Toby says Jesse made this. He says the grave was empty. What is going on? Did my best friend survive that crash?"

Clara's face went pale as a sheet. She looked around frantically, as if checking the surrounding woods for unseen eyes. Before she could answer, the front door of the cabin opened wider, and a tall, heavily scarred man stepped out from the shadows. Marcus gasped. It was Jesse. He was older, his face bearing the deep scars of a terrible fire, but he was undeniably alive.
