Clara took a deep, shaky breath as Dylan rushed to help her up, his hands visibly scraped and bleeding. She looked at Gunnar and explained what had really happened moments before the biker arrived. Clara had been slowly navigating the parking lot with her walker, completely unaware of a distracted driver in a massive black SUV backing up rapidly out of a blind spot. The driver hadn't looked, and the heavy vehicle was on a direct collision course with her.

Dylan, who had been walking out of the convenience store, saw the danger. Without a single second of hesitation, the young man had sprinted across the hot asphalt and lunged forward, pushing Clara and her walker out of the path of the reversing vehicle. The SUV had missed them by mere inches, speeding away in panic. Clara had fallen to the concrete, but she was alive and unharmed because of Dylan's heroic leap.

Gunnar’s face flushed with deep embarrassment and regret. He slowly released Dylan's collar, looking down at his own massive hands in shame. He looked at Dylan's raw palms and the torn sleeve of his varsity jacket.

Dylan rubbed his neck, giving a small, tired smile.

Gunnar immediately knelt down to help Clara, gently checking her for injuries and setting her walker upright. He then reached into his leather vest, pulled out a stack of bills, and handed them to Dylan.
