Kane’s grip was like iron, and for a second, Luke thought he was going to be thrown onto the pavement. The biker’s eyes searched the kid's face, looking for defiance, but all he found was genuine, paralyzing fear. Luke wasn't trying to run; he was staring desperately past Kane toward the fallen woman.

"Please,"

Luke choked out, pointing a trembling finger toward the old sedan parked at pump number four.

"The glove box... her medicine. She’s having a heart attack!"

Kane paused, his grip loosening just a fraction. He glanced down at Martha. The elderly woman was struggling to breathe, her lips turning a faint shade of blue. She weakly reached a frail hand toward Luke, her voice barely a whisper.

"Luke... my boy..."

she gasped, trying to find the air.

"He didn't... hurt me. He was... trying to save me."

The realization hit Kane like a physical blow. He let go of Luke’s collar, stepping back as the pieces of the puzzle suddenly fell into place. Luke hadn’t knocked the woman down. She had collapsed, and the boy had desperately tried to catch her, falling to the ground with her before scrambling up to run to the car for her medication.

Without a second thought, Luke bolted to the sedan, tore open the passenger door, and grabbed a small plastic prescription bottle from the glove compartment. He sprinted back, falling to his knees beside his grandmother. With shaking hands, he popped a tiny pill under her tongue.

Kane stood over them, his tough exterior instantly crumbling. The anger in his chest was replaced by a cold wave of guilt. He looked at the teenager, who was now holding the elderly woman's head in his lap, whispering soothing words while tears streamed down his dusty cheeks. Kane realized he had almost assaulted a terrified young man who was doing everything in his power to save his grandmother's life.
