The Weight of the Leather Patch

Leo’s smirk faltered under the weight of Jack's icy stare, but Marcus only tightened his grip on Chloe, pulling her back against the chain-link fence. He was trembling, fueled by a dangerous mix of adrenaline and chemical courage. He didn't know who Jack was; he only saw an old man trying to play the hero.

"I don't care who you are!" Marcus screamed, his eyes wild. "Chloe is staying with me! We had a deal, and she thinks she can just walk away?"

Chloe sobbed, shaking her head. "Marcus, please, you're hurting me," she pleaded, her hands clutching at his green hoodie to ease the pressure on her neck. Jack took another step, his hands open at his sides, but his posture was that of a predator ready to strike. The leather patch on his vest—the emblem of the Iron Reapers—shimmered in the dull light.

Suddenly, the low, synchronized roar of heavy engines echoed from the street. Leo turned his head, his smirk completely vanishing as three massive motorcycles pulled up to the curb just outside the court's locked gates. The riders, burly men clad in matching leather vests, dismounted and stood like sentries, their presence instantly shifting the power dynamic. Leo slowly set his red cup down on the bench, his bravado evaporating.

"Marcus, man, let's go," Leo muttered, his voice trembling as he backed away. "This isn't worth it."

But Marcus was too far gone. He pulled a small pocket knife from his pocket, the blade catching the dim gray light. He pressed it near Chloe's shoulder. Jack's heart stopped, but his face remained a mask of stone. He knew that one wrong move would seal his daughter's fate, and he had already failed her once by leaving.

"You think those bikers scare me?" Marcus hissed, though his eyes darted frantically toward the fence. "Tell them to back off!"
