Rex was ready to drag the boy to the station office, but something in Hunter's desperate gaze made him hesitate. The teenager wasn't trying to fight back; instead, he was trembling violently, his hands shaking as he pointed frantically toward his own varsity jacket pocket.

"She’s choking! She can't breathe!"
Rex blinked, momentarily thrown off balance. He looked down at the elderly woman, Mrs. Gable. Her face was turning a terrifying shade of blue, her chest heaving as she gasped for air. Beside her on the ground was a small yellow plastic tube that had rolled under her walker.
Hunter desperately reached into his pocket and pulled out a second device—an epinephrine auto-injector.
"A wasp stung her at the pump,"Hunter explained rapidly, tears streaming down his face.
"I saw her collapsing from inside the store. I ran out to catch her, but I tripped over her walker and we both went down! I was trying to give her the shot when you grabbed me!"
The realization hit Rex like a physical blow. He had completely misread the situation. His protective instinct had blinded him to the actual crisis unfolding right in front of him. Without wasting another second, Rex released the boy’s collar and knelt beside the elderly woman.
