Previously: When a rugged biker named Hank arrived on Irene's porch with a mint-green duffel bag, she expected the worst. But the truth about her late son's disappearance was far more shocking than she ever imagined.

A Web of Cruel Lies

The devastating words hung in the warm morning air, shattering the fragile peace Irene had spent a decade trying to build. Her knees buckled under the weight of the sudden grief, but Hank reached out a steadying hand through the open space of the screen door. Tears flowed freely down Irene's cheeks as she stared at the photograph of her boy. He was gone, truly gone, and she would never get to tell him how much she loved him.

Before Irene could spiral deeper into her sorrow, Hank reached into the side pocket of the duffel bag and pulled out a thick, heavy stack of envelopes tied together with a faded yellow ribbon.

"Julian never stopped thinking about you, Irene,"
Hank said softly.
"He wrote to you every single month. And he sent money. Thousands of dollars over the years, to make sure you were taken care of. He was so proud of you."

Irene stared at the letters in absolute bewilderment.

"That can't be right,"
she stammered, shaking her head.
"I never received a single letter. I thought he hated me. My brother Arthur and I have been struggling to pay the mortgage for years."

Hank's expression immediately hardened, his eyes narrowing.

"That's impossible. Julian kept every single receipt. He said his uncle Arthur was helping him keep his motorcycle life a secret from you, but Arthur swore he was giving you the money."

Right then, the front door swung wide open. Arthur, Irene's younger brother, stepped onto the porch with an angry scowl.

"Irene, what is this racket? Tell these hoodlums to leave!"
he demanded. But the moment Arthur's eyes fell upon the mint-green duffel bag and the stack of letters in Hank's hand, his face drained of all color. He took a sharp step backward, his hands beginning to shake. The truth was unraveling right before their eyes.
