Within minutes, the store manager arrived with two police officers who had been patrolling the parking lot. Dan tried to wriggle free from Silas’s grip, shouting about assault and kidnapping, but Silas refused to let go until the officers took control of the situation. As the police separated Dan and began questioning him, Silas knelt down on the cold linoleum floor to finally look Chloe in the eyes.

"You're safe now, little one," Silas said, offering a warm, reassuring smile. "Nobody is going to hurt you."

Chloe wiped her nose with the sleeve of her pink hoodie. She looked at Silas’s leather vest, her eyes wide with wonder. "My mommy told me if I was ever in big trouble, to look for the man with the golden phoenix," Chloe whispered. "She said he was the strongest man in the world, and he would always save me. Are you my Grandpa Silas?"

Silas felt a lump form in his throat as tears welled in his eyes. The young woman in the photo was his estranged daughter, Sarah, who had tragically passed away a year ago. Silas had been searching for his granddaughter ever since, but his corrupt ex-son-in-law, Dan, had illegally hidden Chloe away in a different state to keep them apart. Dan had been using Chloe to collect her mother's life insurance trust fund.

The police confirmed the custody documents and arrested Dan on the spot for child endangerment and abduction. As the officers led a shouting Dan away in handcuffs, Silas wrapped his massive arms around Chloe, holding her tight.
