Previously: When a rugged biker tried to pay for his meal with a silver ring, a kind-hearted waiter stepped in. He had no idea the stranger was holding the key to his past.

The Secret in the Silver Ring

Inside the diner, the tension was thick enough to cut with a knife. Mr. Vance glared at Owen, his face turning an angry shade of red. He began a harsh lecture about diner policy, threatening to dock Owen's pay for the cost of the meal and warning him that his job was on a thin line. But Owen barely heard a word his manager was saying. His eyes were locked on the table. Kane had left, but in his haste, he had left the silver ring behind.

With trembling fingers, Owen picked up the heavy metal band. As he turned it over in his palm, his breath caught in his throat. Engraved on the inside of the ring was a tiny, delicate wild rose. It was a design Owen knew intimately. Hanging beneath his shirt, resting against his chest, was a silver pendant with the exact same wild rose engraving—the only keepsake left to him by the mother who had passed away when he was just a toddler.

Owen's heart hammered against his ribs as a wave of realization washed over him. He rushed past a shouting Mr. Vance and threw open the diner doors, scanning the parking lot. But the roar of a motorcycle engine was already fading into the distance. Kane was gone. For the next hour, Owen went through the motions of his shift like a ghost, his mind spinning with questions. Who was that man? How did he have his mother's ring?

Just as the lunch rush began to dwindle, the diner doors opened once more. The bell chimed, and Owen looked up. Kane stood in the doorway, but his rugged exterior seemed to have softened. In his hands, he held a worn, leather-bound journal. Mr. Vance stepped forward to intercept him, but Kane walked right past him, his eyes locked entirely on Owen.
