Previously: When a struggling waitress serves a lone biker a free meal, he returns with his entire crew and a life-changing secret about her late father.

A Debt From the Past

Before Emily could fully process the miracle in her hands, the diner's screen door banged open. Arthur Vance, the ruthless local developer who had been trying to force Emily to sell the land for months, stepped inside. He held a foreclosure notice, a smug grin plastered across his face. He didn't notice the sea of leather-clad bikers parked outside until he was already at the counter.

"I see you're still playing restaurant, Emily,"

Vance sneered, ignoring Jack.

"But your time is up. Unless you have the fifteen thousand dollars you owe my firm by five o'clock, this land belongs to me."

Emily felt her chest tighten, but before she could speak, Jack stepped between her and the developer. His massive frame completely blocked Vance's view of the young waitress.

"She has the money,"

Jack said, his voice dangerously quiet.

"And she has a lot more than that."

Vance laughed nervously, adjusting his expensive suit.

"And who are you? Her bodyguard? This is a legal matter, old man. A bunch of grease monkeys can't stop a court order."

Jack smiled, but there was no warmth in it. He reached into his leather vest and pulled out an old, faded photograph. He laid it on the counter. It showed two young soldiers in combat gear, smiling in front of a military vehicle. One of them was a young Jack; the other was Emily’s late father, Thomas.

"My name is Jack 'The Bear' Miller,"

the biker said, looking Vance dead in the eye.

"And thirty years ago, Thomas saved my life under enemy fire. I promised him I’d look out for his girl. It took me years to track her down, but I'm here now. And you're standing in my brother's house."
