A New Dawn of Freedom
The realization of who Luke was struck Arthur like a physical blow. He took a step back, his bravado entirely shattered. He knew the reputation of the man standing before him, and he knew he was completely outmatched. Luke stepped closer, his shadow engulfing the smaller man.
"Here is how this is going to go," Luke said, his tone leaving no room for negotiation. "You are going to walk inside, pack a bag, and leave. If I ever see your face near Amanda or Joey again, the police will be the least of your worries. Do you understand me?"
Arthur swallowed hard, nodded rapidly, and retreated into the house without another word. The spell of fear that had held Amanda captive for years was finally broken. She let out a sob of pure relief, collapsing into her brother’s arms. Luke held her tight, resting his chin on her head, before reaching down to pull Joey into the embrace as well.
Within an hour, Arthur was gone, and Luke helped Amanda and Joey pack their most precious belongings into the back of his truck, which he had called his club brothers to bring over. As they prepared to leave the suburban house that had felt like a prison for so long, Joey looked up at his uncle with wide, admiring eyes.
"Are we going to be safe now, Uncle Luke?" Joey asked softly.
Luke knelt down so he was eye-to-eye with the boy, offering a warm, reassuring smile.
"You are safe forever, kiddo. I promise," Luke replied, ruffling the boy's hair.
As they drove away into the twilight, leaving the dark past behind them, Amanda looked out the window with a genuine smile for the first time in a decade. She knew the road ahead would be long, but with her brother by her side, she finally had the second chance she deserved. True family never truly leaves you; they are just waiting for the moment you need them most to guide you back to the light.
