Previously: When Megan served a warm plate of steak and eggs to a rugged biker, she never expected him to pay off her diner's massive debt—or reveal a life-changing secret.

The Ghost of the Past

Megan’s hands trembled as she held the stack of cash. The weight of it was staggering, but the weight of her memories was heavier. Years ago, when she was just a little girl, her father, Thomas, had welcomed a bruised and battered young biker into this very diner, feeding him and giving him a place to sleep without asking a single question. That young man had been Wayne. Before she could process the sudden reunion, the screech of tires shattered the emotional moment. A sleek black sedan pulled into the gravel lot, and Mr. Vance, the ruthless local developer who had been bullying Megan to sell the land, stepped out.

Vance smirked, holding a clipboard. "Well, Megan, today is the deadline. I assume you don't have the fifty thousand dollars to cover the back taxes and the mortgage default? If not, my crew starts demolition next week." He looked sneeringly at Wayne and his motorcycle club, clearly unimpressed. "And I see you've brought some trashy friends to witness your failure."

Before Megan could speak, Wayne took a slow step forward, his towering frame casting a shadow over the developer. The rest of the motorcycle crew stepped up, forming a silent, intimidating wall of leather and steel. Wayne reached into his leather vest, but instead of another weapon, he pulled out a certified bank document.

"I told you, I never forget a kindness,"
Wayne growled, his voice like rolling thunder.
"And I certainly don't let parasites steal from the daughter of the man who saved my life."

Wayne revealed that he hadn't just brought cash for the diner's daily specials. He had spent the last three days tracking down the regional bank holding the diner's mortgage, using his club's legal defense fund and his own savings to buy out the entire debt. Vance's smirk instantly vanished, his face turning a pale shade of white as he stared at the official deed transition papers in Wayne's hands.
