Previously: When tough biker Marcus finds a young woman hiding in a damp parking lot, a hidden wristband reveals a shocking connection to a past he tried to forget.

The Ghost of the Past

Once the sirens faded into the distance, Marcus slowly let go of Lily, though he kept his hands on her shoulders to steady her. His mind was racing. That white wristband wasn't from a standard hospital. It belonged to the Blackwood Sanitarium, a private, high-security facility on the edge of the stateβ€”a place Marcus knew all too well. Ten years ago, Marcus had worked security there, witnessing things that still haunted his nightmares before he walked away to live a quiet life on his motorcycle.

He looked at Lily, seeing the striking resemblance now. Her mother was Sarah, the woman who had tried to blow the whistle on the facility's illegal pharmaceutical testing on patients before she mysteriously disappeared. Marcus had tried to help Sarah back then, but he had been too late.

"Your mother was Sarah, wasn't she?"

Marcus asked, his voice barely a whisper against the cool night wind.

Lily gasped, her eyes widening in shock. She nodded slowly, tears spilling down her cheeks.

"She told me if anything happened to her, I had to run. She gave me this wristband. It has a micro-drive hidden inside the lining. It contains all the data she gathered. The police... they aren't trying to protect the public, Marcus. They are working for the facility's owner. They want this drive, and they'll kill me to get it."

Marcus felt a familiar fire ignite in his chest. For a decade, he had carried the guilt of failing Sarah. Now, her daughter was standing in front of him, holding the key to finally bringing down the monsters who had ruined so many lives. The local police force was compromised, bought out by the wealthy director of Blackwood. They couldn't run, and they couldn't go to the local authorities. They needed a plan, and they needed it immediately.

"We need to get off the streets,"

Marcus said, helping Lily to her feet.

"My club is just a few miles from here. They won't look for you there. Not yet."
