A Dark Secret Unravels
Within minutes, a small crowd had gathered at the end of the aisle. The store manager, a nervous-looking man in a blue polo, rushed over alongside a security guard. Gary immediately seized the opportunity, gesturing wildly at Marcus.
"This biker is trying to take my daughter!" Gary shouted, trying to rally the onlookers. "He stepped between us and wouldn't let her come to me. Call the police!"
The manager turned to Marcus, but before anyone could speak, Chloe let out a sharp sob. "He's not my daddy!" she cried out, her small voice ringing clearly through the tense silence. "He told me my mommy went to sleep forever, but he's a liar! He took me from my yard!"
A collective gasp whispered through the crowd. Gary's face drained of color. He lunged forward to grab Chloe's arm, but Marcus instantly stepped into his path, his massive chest blocking Gary entirely.
"Touch her, and we're going to have a very different kind of conversation," Marcus warned, his hand resting on his belt.
Marcus looked down at Chloe. He noticed a small, silver locket hanging around her neckβone that was shaped like a half-heart. His heart skipped a beat. With trembling fingers, Marcus reached into his vest pocket and pulled out a weathered leather wallet. He flipped it open to reveal a faded photograph of a smiling toddler wearing the exact same locket, next to a young woman with the same striking green eyes as Chloe.
Marcus looked from the photo to the terrified little girl, and then back to Gary. A look of fierce, protective realization washed over the old biker's face. He knew exactly who this little girl was, and he knew he couldn't let Gary out of his sight.
"Her name isn't Chloe, is it?" Marcus asked, his voice shaking with a mix of rage and hope. "Her name is Lily. And you took her from her mother three years ago."
