An Unlikely Savior

Just as Gregory’s fist descended, a blur of motion erupted from the tavern’s shadowed depths. Edward Sterling, a towering figure who seemed to absorb the dim light, moved with astonishing speed. A biker, his leather cut stained with the marks of his trade, a jagged scar bisecting his face, his eyes like chips of ice, intercepted Gregory’s strike. The impact was a dull, bone-jarring thud that reverberated through the room, arresting Gregory’s fist mere inches from Elena’s terrified face. The air crackled with a new tension, heavier than the scent of coffee and damp wood.

"Touch her again, and you lose that hand permanently," Edward’s voice was a low, lethal growl, devoid of emotion but heavy with unspoken threat. Gregory’s arrogant sneer vanished, replaced by wide-eyed shock. His breath hitched, trapped in his throat as he stared at the immovable force blocking his path. Edward’s massive hand, adorned with silver skull rings, clamped down on Gregory’s wrist. With a sickening torque, he twisted. The sound of tearing tendons and popping cartilage filled the air, a visceral testament to Edward’s strength. Gregory’s face drained of color, cold sweat erupting on his forehead as he choked back a scream.

"Sign the lease renewal right now, or I snap it clean in two," Edward commanded, his gravelly voice leaving no room for negotiation. He exerted downward pressure, forcing Gregory, the powerful landlord, onto his knees. The arrogant man landed in the puddle of spilled coffee and shattered ceramic, the lightning flashes momentarily illuminating his abject humiliation. Edward loomed over him, a grim reaper silhouetted against the storm-lashed skylight. "Down on your knees in the dirt, where predators belong," Edward stated, his voice laced with icy finality. Elena watched, breathless, a mixture of shock and dawning relief washing over her.
