The Web of Deceit Unravels

For a long, agonizing moment, the only sound in the room was the rhythmic hum of the hospital monitors. Leo cleared his throat, trying to force a charming smile back onto his face, though his knuckles turned white around the handles of his designer bags. "Arthur! What a surprise," Leo stammered, stepping forward. "We were just... picking up a few essentials for the baby. You know how expensive newborn care can be."

Beatrice quickly nodded in agreement, her voice trembling slightly. "Yes, Arthur. We only want the absolute best for our little angel. We've been managing Clara's expenses to make sure she isn't stressed."

Arthur didn't blink. He took a slow step toward them, his presence completely dominating the small hospital room.

"Essentials?" Arthur repeated, his voice dripping with aristocratic disdain as he glanced at the Gucci and Prada logos. "I have bankrolled this pregnancy from day one. Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars a month. Yet, when I arrived today, I found Clara in a standard ward, and my granddaughter's hospital account is past due. Where did the money go?"

Clara began to sob quietly, the dam finally breaking. Tears streamed down her face as she looked at Arthur. "I'm so sorry, Arthur," she wept, clutching her baby tighter. "They took it all. Ever since Thomas passed away, they've been controlling me. They told me if I told you the truth, they would make sure I lost custody of my baby. They threatened to paint me as an unfit, grieving mother. I had no choice!"

Leo’s face darkened, his mask of politeness slipping. He glared at Clara, his eyes full of malice. "Shut up, Clara! Don't listen to her, Arthur. She's hysterical. We've been the ones taking care of her while you sat in your mansion!"
