Previously: A ruthless billionaire storms into the NICU to revoke custody, but the exhausted mother has a hidden ace up her sleeve. What secrets does a simple teddy bear hold?

The Teddy Bear's Secret

The sterile environment of the NICU seemed to amplify the tension. Carter Ross watched Arthur, his expression one of impatient disdain. He saw her exhaustion, her fear, and mistook it for weakness. His lawyer hovered, the gold pen a silent threat. Arthur, however, was no longer just a desperate mother. A steely resolve had settled within her, a quiet fury that belied her fragile appearance.

Slowly, deliberately, Arthur straightened her spine. She reached into the incubator, her fingers brushing against the soft, worn fabric of a plush brown teddy bear. It was an old friend, a silent witness to happier times. She lifted it gently, turning it in her hands. One of its glass button eyes caught the light, and Arthur rotated it, revealing a tiny, blinking red optical micro-lens. A thin, almost invisible cable snaked from the eye, tethered to a small tablet screen she had kept concealed.

“You spent millions buying this court date, Carter, but you forgot who bought our baby’s teddy bear.”

Arthur’s voice was chillingly calm, each word precisely enunciated. The contrast between her quiet tone and the violent storm outside was unnerving. Carter’s arrogant smirk faltered. His brow furrowed, his eyes narrowing as a flicker of unease crossed his face. He knew the teddy bear held sentimental value, but this? This was unexpected.

Arthur spun the tablet outward, angling it so Carter, the attorney, and the monitoring machines could all see. The teddy bear’s camera feed sprang to life. It was a crystal-clear 4K video, recorded from within the nursery crib. It showed Carter, his face contorted with rage, systematically destroying cribs, his voice loud and bragging as he openly admitted to bribing court judges. The video was being streamed directly into an active emergency family court hearing. On the tablet screen, the presiding judge, his face a mask of thunderous disbelief, was already standing, his gavel poised.

Carter’s jaw went slack. The color drained from his face, leaving his skin ashen. Sweat beaded on his forehead, his cruel eyes wide with dawning horror. The predatory confidence evaporated, replaced by sheer, unadulterated panic.
