Previously: He thought he could crush me with his wealth and power. But this humble mother had a plan, and a teddy bear, that would bring the mighty Gregory Thorne to his knees.

The Reckoning

The massive screen blared to life, projecting high-definition night-vision footage accompanied by the deafening audio of a nursery. The guests gasped, turning from the storm outside to the horror unfolding within the penthouse walls. Gregory’s face went from smug confidence to paralyzed terror as the feed showed him, drunk and enraged, violently kicking down Lily’s nursery door, screaming obscenities at our infant daughter. My voice, calm and lethal, cut through the stunned silence. “Watch closely, everyone,” I announced, my eyes locked on Gregory’s rapidly paling face, “this is how the billionaire philanthropist behaves behind closed doors.”

“Watch closely, everyone—this is how the billionaire philanthropist behaves behind closed doors.”

Panic erupted. Gregory’s lead attorney, Marcus Vance, his face glistening with sweat, pointed a trembling finger at the screen. “Cut the live feed immediately!” he shrieked, his voice cracking with fear. “The Chief Justice and the child services commissioner are sitting at table one!” Driven by feral panic, Gregory lunged across the opulent table, reaching for Bartholomew, desperate to destroy the evidence. But I was ready. With fluid grace, I pivoted, slapping his reaching wrist away with a sharp, resounding crack. In that instant, two armed federal marshals, who had been discreetly positioned, tackled Gregory from behind. He was slammed chest-first onto the polished mahogany, his wrists wrenched behind him and secured with ratchet-clicking steel handcuffs. I stood tall, clutching Bartholomew, the storm outside finally beginning to subside. Gregory, pinned and defeated, stared up at me, his eyes wide with devastated ruin. “You didn’t take my child, Gregory,” I stated, my voice cold and final, “you just signed over sole custody and every penny of your fortune.” A massive clap of thunder shook the penthouse, a fitting punctuation to his irreversible downfall. The fight was over. Justice, served by a mother’s love and a teddy bear’s secret.
