Previously: When billionaire George recognized the elderly waitress serving his table, a flood of memories returned. Years ago, she saved his life with a piece of bread—and now, it was his turn to pay her back.

A Cruel Confrontation

The touching reunion was brutally shattered by the heavy tread of expensive leather shoes. Richard, George’s cutthroat business partner and the operating manager of the luxury restaurant group, marched over with a look of thunderous rage on his face. Behind him stood two burly security guards.

"What is the meaning of this, George?"

Richard demanded, his voice dripping with condescension as he glared at Hazel.

"Why is this incompetent old woman crying at our VIP table? Get her out of here before she ruins our reputation."

George stepped protectively in front of Hazel, his posture stiffening.

"Watch your mouth, Richard. Hazel is the sole reason I am alive today. And as of five minutes ago, she is the new owner of this building. I bought it out."

Richard let out a harsh, mocking laugh that echoed through the quieted dining room. He pulled a folded legal document from his breast pocket and tapped it triumphantly.

"You bought the real estate, George, but you forgot to read the fine print of our partnership agreement. I control the operating franchise. And under clause twelve, any transfer of property to an active employee without board consent voids the purchase, forfeiting your investment directly to the corporation."

George’s blood ran cold. He had acted on pure emotion, failing to realize that Richard had set a legal trap for him weeks ago, waiting for a misstep.

Richard turned his sneer back to Hazel, gesturing to the security guards.

"Furthermore, this woman is a thief. We caught her on camera smuggling food out of the kitchen. She is being terminated immediately, and I am pressing charges."

Hazel gasped, tears spilling over her wrinkled cheeks as she clutched George’s arm.

"I didn't steal to sell it!"

she sobbed.

"It was just the leftover bread that was going to be thrown in the dumpster. I... I couldn't bear to see the children in the alley go hungry. I only wanted to feed them, just like I did for you, George."

The cruelty of the situation hit George like a physical blow. Richard was using Hazel’s pure heart to destroy them both.
