A Wedding Day Turned Nightmare

The air hung heavy and cold, a stark contrast to the festive occasion. Rain slicked the cobblestones outside St. Jude Elite Academy, reflecting the dim amber streetlights. Mist curled from our breath as raindrops drummed a relentless rhythm against silk umbrellas and the roofs of waiting towncars. It was supposed to be Sarah's perfect day, marrying the wealthy Carter Ross. But standing by the ornate, rain-soaked floral arbor, I felt a knot of dread tighten in my stomach. My son, Grace, a boy of fourteen with sensitive hazel eyes and damp chestnut curls, stood clutching his worn wooden toy locomotive. He’s autistic, and the noise and crowds of the wedding were already making him anxious. As Carter, the arrogant billionaire groom, strode past in his sharp charcoal tuxedo, Grace, lost in his own world, accidentally dropped his precious toy. It skittered across the wet pavement, coming to rest against Carter's gleaming patent leather shoe. The sight of it seemed to ignite something vile in Carter. His patrician features twisted into a mask of pure venom. Before I could even react, his arm shot out, a blur of motion. A sharp, open-handed slap cracked across Grace's pale cheek, the force of it snapping the boy's head sideways and sending him stumbling to his knees on the slick stones. "Don't ever soil my shoes with your filthy trash, freak!" Carter sneered, his voice laced with razor-sharp malice. Grace remained silent, his mouth clamped shut, his breath hitching as tears welled in his wide eyes, a crimson handprint already blooming on his trembling cheek. He just clutched his toy tighter, his small body rigid with shock and humiliation.
