The wind howled like a banshee, whipping the slate-gray Mediterranean into a violent frenzy. Rain lashed against the floor-to-ceiling glass of my penthouse art gallery in Cannes, each drop a percussive beat against the symphony of the storm. Lightning fractured the sky, casting grotesque shadows that danced across the wet Carrara marble and minimalist sculptures. It was a night of raw, untamed nature, a stark contrast to the curated elegance of my world. Then, she appeared, a ghost from a past I’d long buried. Sarah. My mother. Or rather, the woman who gave birth to me, twenty years ago.

The Tempest Within

She stood on the terrace, a frail silhouette against the tempest. Her navy cardigan, threadbare and faded, was a world away from the designer silks I favored. Her hands, roughened and weathered, trembled as she clutched the railing. She looked… defeated. And I, Armand Dubois, heir to a fortune built on indifference, felt a surge of cold disgust. “Twenty years of silence, and you show up here begging like a stray dog?!” I boomed, my voice amplified by the gallery’s acoustics and my own venom. Her chin quivered, her eyes wide with unshed tears as she cowered, a beaten animal. “You abandoned me as a sick child,” I spat, advancing, my diamond rings glinting in the intermittent lightning. “So don’t you dare call yourself my mother!” Her mouth closed, a silent plea I refused to hear. The storm outside raged, but the true tempest was brewing within the sterile walls of my gallery.
