The next morning, we drove to Margaret's estate—a sprawling mansion with iron gates and a guardhouse. Christian didn't wait for permission. He drove straight through the gates, and Hannah held me tight in the back seat.

Margaret was waiting on the front steps, a glass of wine in her hand. She was 45, with dark hair and a thin scar running down her cheek. When she saw us, she smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. "Christian," she said. "What a surprise."

"Cut the act," Christian said, stepping out of the car. "We know what you did."

Margaret's smile faltered. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Leo," Hannah said, her voice shaking. "You sold our son to a black-market adoption ring."

Margaret's gaze flicked to me, and for a moment, I saw something dark pass across her face. "That child?" she said, her voice dripping with contempt. "He was never a real Vale. I did what was best for our family."

I felt a sob rise in my throat, but Christian stepped in front of me. "You're done," he said. "The police have the records, the witness, and the DNA. You're going to prison for a long time."

Margaret laughed, a brittle sound. "You think you can just take him back?" she said. "He's been tainted. He's been beaten and starved. He'll never be one of you."

Hannah stepped forward, her eyes blazing. "He's not tainted," she said. "He's our son. And he's been through more than you could ever understand. But he survived. And he's going to thrive."

Margaret's face twisted. "You're a fool," she spat. "You always were."

But then the police cars pulled into the driveway, and Margaret's bravado crumbled. She took a step back, her wine glass shattering on the ground. "You can't do this," she said. "I'm a Vale."

"Not anymore," Christian said, and I saw the steel in his eyes.

As the officers handcuffed Margaret, she looked at me one last time. "You're not worth it," she hissed. "You never were."

I flinched, but Christian lifted me into his arms. "Don't listen to her," he whispered. "You're worth everything."

We drove back to the Vale estate, a sprawling property with rolling lawns and a lake that shimmered in the afternoon light. Hannah took me to a room that was already decorated with toys and books, a bed with a soft blue comforter, and a window that overlooked the garden.

"This is your room," she said, her eyes glistening. "We've been keeping it ready for you, just in case."

I stood in the middle of the room, not knowing what to say. For the first time in my life, I had a family. I had a home.

That night, as Christian tucked me into bed, he kissed my forehead. "We're going to make up for lost time," he said. "Every single day."

I clutched the gold medallion, now whole again, and smiled. "I'd like that."

Hannah knelt beside the bed, taking my hand. "We have so much to tell you," she said. "So much to show you. But first, we need to know—do you forgive us?"

I looked at her, at the tears streaming down her face, at the love in her eyes. "There's nothing to forgive," I said. "You found me."

And in that moment, I knew I was finally home.

Years later, I would learn that Margaret was sentenced to 20 years in prison, and Donna got 15. But that night, all I knew was that I was safe, loved, and wanted. I was a Vale, and I was never going to be alone again.

The last thing I saw before I fell asleep was the wedding photo inside the medallion, glowing in the moonlight. My parents were smiling, and so was I.
