Previously: After being wrongfully disgraced and blacklisted from the force, elite marksman Jessica steps onto a dusty desert range to prove her doubters wrong with seven impossible shots.

The Final Target

The standoff felt like an eternity. Marcus’s hand remained inside his jacket, his eyes darting between Ryan and Jessica. He believed he held all the cards, but he had made one critical mistake. He didn't know whose range he had just invaded.

Jessica stepped out from behind Ryan, holding her rifle safely pointed down, but her face was absolute stone. She looked directly at the dashboard camera of the black SUV, and then up at the high-definition cameras mounted on the wooden roof structure of the range.

"You always were arrogant, Marcus," Jessica said, her voice echoing clearly. "You forgot that Ryan’s range is the premier training facility in the state. Every single lane is equipped with high-definition, live-streaming cameras connected directly to the State Police Academy database."

Marcus froze, his face turning pale. He slowly looked up at the blinking green light on the camera mounted right above the firing line. Ryan smiled, a cold, satisfied grin.

"She's right, Marcus," Ryan said. "We stream every session for training purposes. The entire board of directors, including the state commissioner, just watched you threaten a civilian with private thugs and confess to fabricating charges."

Before Marcus could react, the distant wail of sirens began to echo across the desert. Within minutes, three state trooper cruisers kicked up clouds of dust as they surrounded the range. Real officers stepped out, weapons drawn, directing their attention immediately to Marcus and his private guards. Marcus was handcuffed on the spot, his corrupt empire crumbling in a matter of seconds.

As the cruisers drove away with Marcus in the back, Ryan turned to Jessica. He looked at the perfect single hole in the center of the target downrange, then back at her.

"I think we have an opening for a head instructor here," Ryan said, holding out his hand. "If you're interested."

Jessica smiled, shaking his hand. She had finally reclaimed her life, proving that no matter how hard they try to bury the truth, true talent and justice will always find their mark. Sometimes, all it takes to rebuild your life is seven perfect shots and the courage to stand your ground.
