Previously: A ruthless art dealer tries to swindle a blind master sculptor out of his last creation, only to discover a fortune hidden within the humble clay. The confrontation escalates as the dealer's greed is met with unexpected power.

The Vulture's Prize

Vance’s smirk tightened at Noah’s stoic silence. Impatience flickered in his eyes. He leaned forward, his expensive suit brushing against the sterile sheets, and roughly snatched the clay bust from Noah’s grasp. The sudden movement caused the cardiac monitor to emit a series of sharp, rising beeps, a frantic pulse in the otherwise still room. Noah’s hands, now empty, rested limply on the blanket.

“Crude garbage, but the gallery loves a tragic deathbed charity story.”

From the lapel of his jacket, Vance produced a heavy steel stylus, its tip gleaming under the harsh hospital lights. With a contemptuous chuckle, he brought it down towards the crown of the bust. “Crude garbage, Noah,” he sneered, “but the gallery loves a tragic deathbed charity story. It sells, you know. The narrative of the dying artist, his final gift to the world…” He pressed the stylus into the clay, intending to carve his initials, his mark of ownership.

Noah’s jaw clenched subtly. A faint, knowing smirk began to curl the corner of his chapped lips. He couldn't see, but he could feel the violation. He could feel the predatory intent radiating from Vance. The stylus dug deeper, scraping against the dried terracotta. Vance saw only the value of the story, the manufactured tragedy he intended to peddle. He was so consumed by his own avarice that he missed the subtle shift in Noah’s posture, the almost imperceptible tightening of the blind sculptor’s weathered hands.

Suddenly, with a sharp, brittle crack, the dried clay fractured under the stylus’s pressure. Vance grunted, surprised by the resistance. He pressed harder, determined to leave his mark. But the clay wasn't just breaking; it was crumbling, falling away in chunks. And as it did, it unleashed something unexpected. A blinding, brilliant light, refracting through the sterile air like a shattered rainbow, erupted from the heart of the bust. Vance recoiled, shielding his eyes, his arrogant facade momentarily cracking.
