Previously: A ruthless art dealer tried to humiliate a blind sculptor, only to discover her humble creation hid a fortune far beyond his greed. But the real treasure was something he could never buy.

The Diamond's Revelation

Humiliation warred with rage on Brock’s face. His struggles intensified, a desperate attempt to break free from my unyielding grip. In his fury, he violently jerked his arm backward, a surge of brute force aimed at shattering my hold. His heavy gold signet ring, a symbol of his status, struck the brow of the terracotta bust with vicious force. A sharp, resonant crack split the air, and a thick crust of dried clay sheared away, shattering into a fine dust that settled on the polished marble like a shroud.

"You broke your own garbage! You are worthless and penniless!"

Brock’s voice was a panicked, spitting fury, laced with the fear of his own destructive act. He believed he had finally destroyed my work, and by extension, me. But as he bellowed, I remained unfazed. My chin tilted upward, a gesture of serene defiance. The outburst meant nothing. His anger was a storm I had weathered countless times, both literal and metaphorical.

Calmly, deliberately, I slid my calloused thumbnail beneath the fissure his ring had created. I began to peel away the remaining shell of brittle clay. It crumbled easily, revealing not hollow emptiness, but a hidden core. Then, as if on cue, an external flash of lightning erupted, striking the hotel’s glass facade and piercing the interior. In that blinding instant, the hidden core of my sculpture ignited. A dazzling explosion of light erupted—hyper-vivid prismatic flares, internal blue-white caustic refractions. Nestled within the shattered terracotta lay a flawless, fist-sized Golconda diamond, pulsing with captured lightning.

"I didn't sculpt clay to sell it. I sculpted it to hide my inheritance."

My voice was a whisper, quiet but carrying the weight of devastating authority. Brock stared, his lower jaw slack, his pupils dilating frantically as the diamond’s fire danced across his trembling, pale face. His greed, his arrogance, his contempt—all vanished, replaced by paralyzed horror. He had come to steal pennies and found a king’s ransom, a fortune he could never have imagined, let alone deserved.

Majestic and untouchable against the storm-swept glass, I casually flicked his crumpled fifty-dollar bill off the pedestal with my fingertips. It fluttered pathetically onto his polished Oxford shoe as he stumbled backward, collapsing onto his knees on the wet-reflected marble, his hands shaking in utter defeat. His world had just imploded.

"Now pick up your pocket change, Mr. Henderson, before I buy your entire gallery."

His chin quivered uncontrollably, tears of humiliated shock welling along his lower eyelids as the deep orchestral thunder shook the hotel. He had tried to break me, but in his blindness, he had only revealed the true brilliance of my strength, and the priceless treasure it protected. Some inherit wealth; others create it, and protect it, with everything they have.
