Previously: A blind combat veteran's senses are her weapon when a desperate heist leader targets her in a high-end car dealership. But this is no ordinary robbery.

The Confrontation

Vance’s hesitation lasted only a moment before it was consumed by vicious fury. The sharp, metallic *snap* of the pistol’s slide being racked echoed in the showroom, a sound that vibrated through the floor. Spittle sprayed against the inside of his mask as veins strained against his collar. He had underestimated her, and now, his frustration boiled over into a raw, sadistic threat.

“Get on your knees, blind bitch, or I paint this entire showroom red!”

Vance snarled, his voice raspy and laced with venom. Clara, however, remained still. Her head tilted precisely two inches, a subtle, almost imperceptible movement. She wasn’t cowering; she was acoustically mapping the weapon’s barrel, calculating the distance, the angle, the precise trajectory of the deadly projectile. Her jaw clenched into granite stillness, her focus absolute. She heard the pounding of his heart, the ragged edge of his breath, the subtle shift of his weight. He was a symphony of tells, and she was listening intently.

He lunged, a blur of motion fueled by adrenaline and a desperate need to assert dominance. His intention was clear: to pistol-whip her, to incapacitate her with brute force. But Clara was faster. Years of combat training, honed by the heightened senses of her blindness, kicked in. She executed lightning-fast evasive footwork, ducking beneath the arc of the strike. The slide of the pistol sliced through the air with an audible *swoosh*, missing her temple by inches.

In the same fluid motion, Clara drove the weighted tungsten tip of her cane directly into Vance’s sternum. The impact was a solid, air-expelling *thud*, momentarily stealing his breath. Before he could recover, her hand clamped around his wrist, twisting it into a brutal reverse-joint lock. A sickening, wet *crack* echoed through the showroom as his bones shifted unnaturally. Vance let out a choked gasp, his eyes wide with disbelief and agony.

“Lethal mistake.”

Clara’s voice was a deep, guttural growl, devoid of mercy. Vance’s breath hitched sharply, his body momentarily paralyzed by the excruciating pain. His predatory eyes, moments before filled with malice, were now wide with sheer terror. He had attacked a soldier, a highly trained combat veteran, and he was paying the price.
