Previously: A freezing Christmas Eve blizzard turns deadly when a masked gunman confronts a blind veteran outside a jewelry store. But this is no ordinary victim. She fights back with deadly precision.

The Cane and the Counter-Attack

Marcus, fueled by a potent mix of adrenaline and bravado, stepped closer, his sneering eyes visible through the mask. "Did you go deaf too, old woman? Drop that stick before I paint the curb!" he taunted, his voice dripping with venom. He was so focused on her perceived weakness, he missed the subtle shift in her stance, the almost imperceptible tightening of her grip. Ruth’s chin lifted, her expression one of absolute, unyielding composure. A tiny, cold smirk played on her lips. She had already locked onto his center of mass, analyzing his balance, his every twitch. The instant Marcus committed to his aggressive posture, shifting his weight, Ruth exploded into motion. It was pure, unadulterated military close-quarters combat, honed by years of brutal training and real-world application. Her carbon-fiber cane became a blur, an extension of her will, striking Marcus’s gun wrist with a sharp, audible crack. The suppressed pistol flew from his grasp. In one fluid, continuous motion, Ruth caught the weapon mid-air, disarmed him completely. She stepped into his suddenly vulnerable space, swept his front leg out from under him, and drove the steel pommel of her cane directly into his sternum. The impact sent him sprawling backward, landing with a muffled thud in the freezing slush.

"Sloppy footwork, loose wrist, amateur stance, son."

As Marcus lay stunned and gasping, Ruth’s voice, calm and chillingly precise, cut through the howling wind. "Sloppy footwork, loose wrist, amateur stance, son." He was a mess of paralyzed shock, his eyes wide with agonizing disbelief as tears of pain froze on his cheeks. Ruth didn't hesitate. With the practiced efficiency of a seasoned soldier, she racked the slide of his own pistol against her hip, chambering a round with a decisive click. She leveled the weapon at Marcus, the barrel aimed with unerring, blind accuracy between his terror-stricken eyes. Snowflakes melted against her scarred cheek as steam curled from her lips.
