Previously: A seasoned blind veteran's quiet dignity is shattered by a violent bank robber outside a cathedral, but his combat instincts reveal a darkness far deeper than mere crime.

The Hunter Revealed

As Marcus fell, the handgun tumbled from his grasp. Jack’s battle-hardened hands moved with lightning speed, intercepting the weapon mid-air by the barrel. Years of training kicked in, muscle memory taking over. His thumbs worked the slide, stripping it from the frame, ejecting a live round into the snow with a crisp *ping*. The disassembled components were dealt with in under two seconds. He held the solid steel barrel, now a tool of his own, and drove it firmly against Marcus’s forehead as the robber scrambled on his knees, defeated and terrified.

“What are you… how can you see me?!”

Marcus stammered, his voice a trembling wreck of disbelief, teeth chattering uncontrollably in the freezing air. Tears welled in his eyes, spilling down his cheeks and disappearing into the balaclava. He had expected to prey on weakness, but instead, he had become the prey.

Jack tilted his head, his sightless eyes hidden behind the dark glasses, reflecting the flashing red and blue lights of approaching police cruisers. The lights sliced through the blizzard, painting the gothic facade of the cathedral in strobing patterns of emergency. White condensation billowed from Jack’s nostrils with each calm breath. He didn’t need eyes to see the fear radiating from Marcus, nor to recognize the scent of cheap gun oil and desperation that clung to him like a shroud.

“I don’t need eyes to hunt an amateur who reeks of cheap gun oil.”

With a final, authoritative movement, Jack pinned Marcus’s head into the slush with his combat boot, tossing the dismantled slide aside into the snow. He held the empty frame, a symbol of the thwarted violence, his stance one of unyielding authority. The wail of sirens grew deafening as police cars skidded to a halt, their lights bathing the scene in an intense, chaotic glow. Marcus, utterly broken, could only cower, his body trembling uncontrollably. He had targeted the wrong man, a man who saw the world not through his eyes, but through a lifetime of understanding its dangers. The hunter had been revealed, not by sight, but by instinct and experience, proving that true strength lies not in what you can see, but in what you carry within.
