Previously: A blind veteran's senses become his only weapon when a desperate robber targets him outside a school. What unfolds is a brutal display of combat instinct against sheer panic.

Combat Instinct Unleashed

Rage contorted Marcus's features. With a guttural snarl, he thrust the pistol forward, aiming to strike Tommy's head with brutal force. But Tommy moved with a speed that defied his perceived vulnerability. Years of combat training, ingrained reflexes honed on battlefields far harsher than this drizzly sidewalk, took over. He slipped inside the arc of the strike with fluid grace, his aluminum cane a blur. The sickening, resonant crack of bone echoed as the cane connected sharply with Marcus's inner wrist. The heavy pistol flew from his grasp, spinning end-over-end through the misty air. "My hand—you broke my damn hand!" Marcus shrieked, clutching his shattered wrist in agony. Tommy, unfazed, stepped smoothly into Marcus's momentarily compromised position, his scarred brow steady, his breathing controlled. He moved with the effortless biomechanical precision of a predator.

"I don't need eyes to hear a dead man shaking."

With impeccable reflex, Tommy caught the airborne pistol by its cold steel slide. Before Marcus could react, Tommy pivoted, grabbing the robber's twisted jacket collar with bone-jarring kinetic force. He slammed Marcus face-first against the icy wrought-iron gate of St. Jude's. The metallic reverberation was deafening, scattering the falling raindrops. In a display of astonishing mastery, Tommy ejected the magazine with one hand and expertly racked the slide, catching the live 9mm cartridge smoothly in his palm. Marcus, pinned and trembling, could only sob, "What are you?! You can't see anything!" Tommy remained impassive, his expression merciless as he dropped the now-empty weapon into a muddy puddle with a dull splash. The distant wail of sirens grew louder, red and blue emergency lights beginning to strobe, painting the drifting rain in chaotic flashes. As Tommy leaned down, pulling his aviators down his nose, his milky, sightless eyes stared unflinchingly past Marcus's terror-stricken face. The cold, deadpan finality in his voice was chilling. But as the police lights washed over them, Tommy felt a different kind of chill, one that had nothing to do with the weather. A recognition sparked, a faint echo from a past he thought long buried.
