Previously: When wealthy Megan Sullivan accused her young housekeeper Emily of stealing a priceless diamond necklace, she expected an easy arrest. Instead, her husband James intervened after spotting a hidden family heirloom.
The silence in the grand hall was deafening. Megan smirked triumphantly, pointing a manicured finger at the glittering diamonds. “There is your proof, James! She is a liar and a thief. Call the police immediately and have her dragged out of my house!” she demanded, her voice dripping with venom.
A Shocking Discovery
But James didn't move toward his phone. Instead, he slowly knelt on the cold marble floor, his eyes completely bypassing the priceless diamond necklace. With trembling fingers, he reached past the glittering jewels and picked up the small, scratched silver locket. He held it as if it were made of spun glass.
“Where did you get this, Emily?” James asked, his voice barely a whisper, completely ignoring his wife’s demands.
Emily swallowed hard, wiping a tear from her cheek. “It belonged to my mother, Sarah,” she sobbed. “She gave it to me before she passed away last year. She told me it was the only valuable thing she had left from the only man she ever loved.”
Megan’s face suddenly paled, her triumphant smirk vanishing instantly. “James, don't listen to her! This is a pathetic act. She probably stole that locket from someone else, or she’s trying to con you!” she spat, stepping forward to snatch the locket away. But James stood up, his towering figure shielding Emily from his wife.
With a click, James popped the locket open. Inside was a faded photograph of a young, smiling woman with the exact same expressive blue eyes as Emily. On the inside cover, a tiny engraving read: For Sarah, My Forever. JC.
James looked from the photo to Emily, tears glistening in his eyes. He had spent twenty-two years searching for Sarah, his first love, who had mysteriously vanished after his wealthy parents threatened her life. He never knew she had been pregnant when she fled.
“James, stop this nonsense!” Megan panicked, her voice rising. “She’s a thief! Look at the necklace!”
But James's gaze turned icy as he looked at his current wife. “I know exactly who she is, Megan,” he said. “And I think it’s time we look at the security cameras.”
