A Boy Pushes His Pregnant Mother Through A Flood In A Shopping Cart

As they neared the edge of the historic district, the floodwaters grew deeper, reaching Leo's knees. He stumbled, nearly losing his grip on the cart. Clara screamed in terror as the cart tilted, but Leo threw his entire body weight against it to keep it steady. They were shivering violently, on the verge of hypothermia. Suddenly, a pair of headlights cut through the gloom. A luxury SUV was idling on a higher, dry section of the road. Inside sat Thomas, Clara’s wealthy ex-husband who had abandoned them when he found out the baby might have medical complications.

A Heartless Encounter

Leo ran toward the car, banging his wet hands against the passenger window. "Please! Help us! Mommy is having the baby!" he sobbed.

Thomas rolled the window down just an inch, his face cold and detached. "I told you, Clara, you’re not my responsibility anymore. Call an ambulance," he sneered, looking at the rusty cart with disgust.

"Thomas, please!" Clara whimpered from the cart, holding her stomach. "It's too late for an ambulance! The roads are closed!"

Instead of helping, Thomas rolled up his window and drove away, splashing dirty water over the mother and child. Leo stood in the middle of the flooded street, crying. But his despair quickly turned into a fierce, protective anger. He ran back to the cart, grabbing the handle with renewed fury. He would not let his mother die in the street.

They pushed onward until they reached the iron gates of a grand estate overlooking the flooded valley. The gates were locked, but an elderly man in a heavy raincoat was standing near the driveway, inspecting the drainage. It was Dr. Arthur Vance, a retired obstetrician who lived a secluded life after a tragedy of his own. Seeing the little boy in the orange jacket pushing a pregnant woman in a shopping cart, Arthur froze.
