The sight of Mia alive, bound and gagged inside her own coffin, sent a shockwave of horror through the chapel. Sarah let out a piercing scream, dropping to her knees. The mourners erupted into utter chaos, some fleeing for the exits while others watched in paralyzed disbelief. David's hand trembled slightly, but the barrel of his handgun remained pointed at Leo's chest.

"Don't move, Leo," David hissed, his face pale but determined. "You don't understand what's happening here. She's sick. I was trying to protect this family's reputation."

"Protect us?" Leo spat, throwing the sledgehammer aside and reaching into the broken casket. "You drugged her! You declared her dead so you could take her inheritance!"

The ugly truth hung heavily in the air. Mia's biological father had left her a massive trust fund, set to be unlocked on her eighteenth birthday—which was tomorrow. If Mia were dead, the entire fortune would legally revert to David. Leo had suspected David's sudden grief was a facade, but he never imagined his stepfather would go to such monstrous lengths to bury his sister alive.

With trembling hands, Leo tore the duct tape from Mia's mouth. She gasped for air, sobbing hysterically as she clung to her brother's suit jacket.

"Leo... he forced me to drink something," Mia whimpered, her voice hoarse. "I woke up in the dark. I couldn't breathe..."

David took a step back, realizing his control was slipping. He glared at the siblings, his eyes cold and desperate. "Nobody is leaving this room," he muttered, waving the gun to keep the remaining mourners at bay. But he had underestimated Sarah. Overcome with guilt and fury, Sarah grabbed a heavy brass candelabra from the altar and struck David's arm from behind, sending the gun clattering across the marble floor.
