As they neared the intersection of 4th and Elm, the floodwaters grew deeper, swirling violently around Leo's waist. His muscles burned, and his breath came in ragged gasps. Just when he felt his strength completely giving out, a pair of blinding headlights cut through the gloom. A massive luxury SUV came splashing through the deep water, its engine roaring. Leo waved his arms frantically, screaming for help.

The vehicle screeched to a halt just inches from the shopping cart, sending a wave of dirty water over them. The door flew open, and an older, distinguished-looking man in an expensive wool coat stepped out into the pouring rain.
