The Hidden Safe

For a few long seconds, the luxury suite was dead silent. Vanessa stared at Cheryl, her chest heaving as she struggled to process what had just happened. Slowly, she lowered her hands from her ears and looked down at her husband, who lay motionless on the floor. Then, she looked up at Cheryl, her voice trembling with emotion.

You... you saved me,

Vanessa whispered, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. Cheryl immediately dropped her mop and rushed to Vanessa’s side, wrapping her arms around the shaking woman. Cheryl urged her to call the police, but Vanessa shook her head in panic, explaining that Philip’s family controlled the local police force. He had kept her trapped in this marriage, threatening to ruin her family if she ever tried to leave. Tonight, he had demanded she sign over her entire inheritance to cover up his secret corporate fraud.

Just as Vanessa explained the nightmare, Philip groaned on the floor, his fingers twitching as he began to regain consciousness. Fear spiked through both women. Vanessa confessed that the proof of his embezzlement, along with her passport and legal documents, was locked inside the hotel room's private digital safe. Philip had the only code. Cheryl’s eyes narrowed as she remembered her master keycard and the emergency override tool resting in her cleaning cart. Risking everything, Cheryl ran to her cart, grabbed the override device, and hooked it to the safe. With a sharp beep, the heavy metal door clicked open, revealing a stack of documents and a USB drive. But as Vanessa grabbed them, a shadow fell over them. Philip was standing, his face bruised and bloody, blocking the only exit.
