As Kyle lay groaning on the floor, the sound of distant sirens began to wail, drawing closer to the suburban home. George kept his heavy boot firmly planted near Kyle's shoulder, ensuring the younger man could not flee. Heather slowly raised her head, tears streaming down her pale cheeks as she looked at her father.

"How did you find me, Dad?" Heather whispered, her voice trembling. "He took my phone. I couldn't call for help."

George’s expression softened as he looked at his daughter, but his posture remained rigid and alert. "I've been tracking him for forty-eight hours, sweetheart," George replied. "Ever since the base notified me about the security breach."

The truth was far more sinister than a domestic dispute. Kyle wasn't just a hostile husband; he was a con artist who had targeted Heather to gain access to her family's military estate. The bandage on Kyle’s forehead was not from a random mugging, as he had claimed to Heather. Kyle sneered from the floor, spitting out a mouthful of dust.

"You think you're a hero, old man? You can't prove anything. Those boxes are packed with my belongings. We're just moving."

"The boxes are packed with evidence," George corrected coldly. He gestured to the open cardboard crates scattered around the living room. Underneath the decoy clothes and kitchenware lay stolen military hardware and forged power-of-attorney documents that Kyle had forced Heather to sign under duress. Heather gasped, realizing for the first time the depth of her husband's betrayal. She had believed they were packing for a fresh start in a new city, completely unaware that she was being used as a shield for Kyle's treasonous escape.
